Integrated Mind/Body Therapeutics (IMBT)
Integrative Mind Body Therapeutics is the approach to wellness developed by James Foulkes. It combines the arts of:
- Yoga
- Meditation
- Craniosacral Therapy
- Qi Gong
- Tai Chi
- Kung Fu.
- Shamanic Wisdom Paths
All of these practises are inherently therapeutic but when to explore what method and how is the key question.
This approach to Therapeutic work is appropriate for levels of wellness, all health conditions or medical concerns and all ages and levels of experience with the healing arts.
By marrying the art and science of Yoga and Qi Gong, with knowledge of advanced western anatomy & physiology, each individual is provided with a tailored structural and movement program. As movement capability develops a more complete system of self development through the arts of Tai Chi and Kung Fu becomes possible.
For many people because of the culture stillness is a requirement in the therapeutic journey. Stillness calms the nervous system and allows the fluid fields to integrate giving us the best opportunity for a return to wellness, enhance our energetic selves and strengthen the spirit.
Whereas conventional medicine looks at health problems in an isolated systemic way, Integrative Mind/ Body Therapeutics works through an understanding of the living system, seeing the body as an integrated fluid organism. Eastern and Alternative medicine attempts to create an integrated view of the individual.
When we become truly present, and with considerable work, we become capable of simply stepping out of our physical and emotional restrictions, into a new reality innocent of old injuries.
In the approach to Yoga explored in IMBT, the emphasis is not on achieving postures but on using them to undo tension and find integration. The practice is an ongoing exploration of the relationship between the parts of the body and between our movements and the breath, the ground and the space around us. Gradually a new network of muscles is brought into use. Then our movements come from the spine and bring us back to the spine and the whole body pulls together. We train our attention so that we can feel more, impose less, and allow the intelligence of the body to reveal itself.
IMBT works with the body rather than against it and works to address root cause.
The origin of physical issues are often in the mind/ psyche/ emotional field, lifestyle or belief system.
What does a session typically look like?
Sessions are approximately 1 hour to 1 hour and a 1/2 and consist of movement and stillness. Both of these are essential to the health of the individual.
How much does it cost?
Sessions are typically $150 per session. But a sliding scale is available for those that require it.
What Types of Health Issues can it address?
Factors that compromise posture and function throughout the body are addressed with equal emphasis. There is, however, a focus around the effect on the head and the spinal column, the midline, because it acts on the deepest structures. IMBT influences the nervous system motor, pain and coordination mechanisms, the digestive system, the respiratory system, heart function and the endocrine system.
IMBT enhances the body’s natural healing processes, and has been effective over a wide spectrum of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including:
- Stress Based Issues
- Migraine headaches
- Traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries
- Chronic neck and back pain
- Emotional difficulties
- Motor co-ordination difficulties
- Stress and tension-related problems
- Central nervous system disorders
- Temperal-mandibular joint syndrome (TMJ)
- Orthopaedic problems
- Chronic fatigue and issues around low energy
- Neurovascular or immune disorders
- Scoliosis
- Infantile disorders
- Post-traumatic stress disorder
- Learning disabilities
- Fibromyalgia and other connective tissue disorders
- Recovery from accidents, surgery, and acute conditions
- Resolution of traumas and depression
Aside from the physical aspects of being, it can also be used as a tool for deep relaxation & meditation, to heal old injuries or emotional wounds, uncover resilience and inner vitality, access parts of ourselves outside the conscious realm and augment other approaches to self development. This enables people to find finer levels of balance.
Who might receive IMBT?
James’ clients include people from all walks of life. Some in states of ill health and some in good health who wish to use this subtle work to meet their own objectives, be it in their profession or in their personal life.
